Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum

At Oxclose Nursery School we believe young children develop and learn best when they:

  • Are recognised as unique individuals with ideas and interests that stimulate and enthuse their drive to learn
  • Supported by sensitive and responsive adults who build positive and consistent relationships
  • Access enabling environments, with stimulating resources providing rich learning opportunities through play

The Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum we follow is set out into two distinct areas.  The prime areas which begin to develop from birth and continue to be fundamental throughout the EYFS and the specific areas which include essential skills and knowledge.

Prime areas of the curriculum are:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional development
  • Communication and Language development
  • Physical development

Specific areas of the curriculum are;

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

The Characteristics of Effective Learning are emphasised throughout the curriculum to ensure children are engaged, motivated and develop as critical thinkers.

Characteristics of Effective Learning

  • Playing and Exploring
  • Active Learning
  • Creating and Critical Thinking.
